The recent deaths of Heath Ledger, Suzanne Pleshette, Brad Renfro, and Christian Brando (all within ten days of each other), alongside the ongoing writer’s strike, falling revenues at the box office, and the invasion of the paparazzi are all adding up to a mighty black period in Hollywood’s history.

You might think twice about blaming the paparazzi and looking at these actors/actress. It’s usually a two way relationship.

I agree, it is a two-way relationship and I think there are celebrities that bend over backwards to draw attention to themselves. But at the same time, I think that there is a line that has been crossed by the paparazzi and the tabloid media in how they pursue celebrities. When you have Briney Spears accounting for over $100 million to the American economy solely through tabloid sales and related activites, and TMZ running a live video stream of the front of her house on their website, it opens the door to predation and corruption in the industry.
I agree that there is a certain amount of attention that comes with the role of being a celebrity and celebrities need to be able to accept this, but I’m just saying that the level of privacy invasion in Hollywood in my opinion has gone too far. But this is something that has been on the rise for the last twenty years and will continue to rise, so I think its something that celebrities will need to get more and more used to.
It just blows my mind how the industry has exploded, and how little regulation there seems to be. I think the paparazzi just needs to remember that they’re dealing with human beings, not products, not brands, and people shouldn’t have to be exploited for profit.
